the survivor thrivers today
The Survivor Thrivers are a local dragon boat team of men and women who are living with a breast cancer diagnosis. We have all faced a life-threatening situation, defeated our dragons and now we race them.
We are inclusive, community minded team and are guided by the following principals:
To support and send a message of hope to those living with breast cancer
To raise awareness and undertake education about the benefits of healthy exercise
To give back to the community
Our spirited dragon boat team has grown to over 30 women and one man at various stages of diagnosis, treatment and a return to health. We range in age from the mid 30's to the mid 80's. We now offer two options for paddling. The first is the Dusty Dragons who have alumni paddlers and supporters that no longer want to paddle competitively along with survivors that are new to dragon boating. The second is the Survivor Thrivers who's goal is to compete at a higher level and push themselves to be the best version of themselves that they can be. Most of the team lives in or near Port Hope and Cobourg. However, a significant number of dedicated paddlers hail from as far away as Whitby in the west, Norwood in the north and Napanee in the east.
