NO ONE WITH BREAST CANCER HAS TO BE ALONE

There are a number of ways the Survivor Thrivers offers support.   First of all we are very approachable;

any member  of the  team is willing to answer questions about their own experience and listen to your

concerns.  We also offer a support group and have a male survivor on the team  to offer special support

to male breast cancer patients and  survivors.

The Northumberland Breast  Cancer Support Group

The Group is facilitated by trained members of the Survivor Thrivers. It offers monthly meetings, peer

support, telephone support when needed and a lending library.

Some in the Group are newly diagnosed, some are  in treatment and others are long time survivors.  The

goal of the Group is to provide a safe and secure place to share feelings as well as to send a message  of

hope and support to  people living  with breast cancer.

Being touched by breast cancer creates a special bond, enabling us to provide enormous support to  each

other. The Group provides an opportunity to talk to others who have been through it, whether it's chemo

fog, radiation fatigue, a new drug, recurrence or metastasized cancer. We have people in our group who

have been through it all and are still going strong - surviving and thriving.

Support for Male Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors

PictureSteve - our male Survivor Thriver!
    Although the number of men with breast cancer is much lower than the

    number of women, their outcomes are not as good.

    Some of the reasons are:

  • Many people are unaware that men can get breast cancer;
  • Men are reluctant to discuss breast cancer symptoms, such as a lump, with their doctor;
  • Embarrassment about breast health in men delays diagnosis and treatment - sometimes tragically.

The Survivor Thrivers is fortunate to have a healthy male survivor on the

team.  His name is Steve  and he is a great asset to the team, both on and off the water.  Steve is willing to

speak with you  in confidence and share his experience of detection, diagnosis and treatment of  breast

cancer.  He is willing to listen to you and discuss your concerns.  To learn more about male breast cancer,
